1.44mb Ext.Floppy USB Drive-Bk Review

Perhaps one of Amazon's minions will eventually update the listing to give a more accurate description of this item.Until then, here's the straight poop from a recent buyer.The drive is *bulk*, meaning it's a bare drive with a CD (which contains drivers that don't install with Windows XP and a short .PDF manual).It comes in bubble wrap.No warranty enclosed, no paper docs, no retail packaging (the last not necessarily a bad thing).The drive is black, with a hard-wired foot-long USB cable running out the middle back of the drive.The drive appears to be solidly built, not much larger than a floppy disk.After several attempts to install (the .PDF wasn't much help) that resulted in two drives (A: and B:) being installed in Hardware, I finally came around to the conclusion that a true "hot-plug" install (have the laptop "on" and simply plug the drive into a free USB port) was the only way to get the drive to properly install in Windows XP.I hesitated doing this at first, as previous experience with other USB-powered drives led me to believe that it was better to plug the drive in with the laptop powered off, then let Windows recognize it and load the drivers during Windows startup.Anyway, the drive works great.I deducted a star due to the bulk packaging, etc.

Dell 1.44MB USB External Floppy Drive (Black) Review

I found that while the drive would read the contents of disc #1 it would not run the setup file so I could install the software.I wanted to install some old games on my new computer.I found this to be true on three sets of installation discs.I was able to do the install by copying the first disc to a thumb drive and running the setup file from there.The floppy drive did run the additional discs in each set.

This is a good protuct. You will need a preamp between your turntable and the RDX. I bought mine from Amazon. A Pyle Pro for about 20 bucks. see my review on that.

IBM 1.44MB USB External 3.5" Floppy Drive (Black) Review

A nice little drive, but you need a program like Microsoft Office(TM) to run it or Word. Otherwise it's a waist of money. That's what I found out after the fact I had aquired it from Amazon. But, it's inexpensive. And I did use an Office trial program, so I could try it out. It's a nice easy to install device.

The Transcend StoreJet 25 USB 2.0 is a combination of maximum storage and simplicity at its best. Sleek, durable and a bit faster then my old Seagate, this 2.5" external hard drive comes out of the box ready to perform. This stealthy system is lightweight and packed with a 500GB external hard drive that simply leaves the higher priced competition in the dust.

Its fitted with a one button setup on top of the unit. Simple to use, the drive can be set to remember the files/folders to store in the preferences folder. With the installed software package, scheduling backups and setting security levels is not that much of a task. File compression is always a good choice to remember. All in all, the jury is still out when it comes to the on board StoreJet software. The only thing missing is Firewire support.
