I always use a card reader to download photos from my canon A570IS, canon G10 and canon FS100 flash video camera. It saves on camera batteries and I don't have to deal with camera software. You can just copy/paste from the card to your pictures/video folder and then all of your pics and video is in the same spot. I have a few card readers and keep one with my laptop and 1 in my camera bag and 1 with my desktop.
